Drone Image and Data Privacy Procedure
This written procedure applies to all drone flights and to all images or data I may publish, post online, share with third parties, or offer for sale.
As a Part 107 remote pilot, I take reasonable steps to reduce privacy risk when capturing, storing, publishing, sharing, or occasionally licensing drone images or related data.
My operating practices
I focus my drone imagery primarily on wildlife, scenery, landscapes, vessels, and general environmental context rather than identifiable individuals.
I do not intentionally capture or publish images of people in places or circumstances where they may reasonably expect privacy, including inside homes, through windows, on private balconies, or in fenced private areas.
I avoid intentionally capturing private, personal, or potentially embarrassing activity.
When people appear in images, I prefer wide scenic shots in which they are incidental rather than the main subject, unless their inclusion is clearly appropriate.
Before publishing, posting, sharing, or offering images for sale, I review them for privacy concerns, including identifiable faces, license plates, registration numbers, private property details, or other sensitive details.
When appropriate, I crop, blur, withhold, or replace images rather than publish material that could create an unnecessary privacy concern.
I limit sharing of raw imagery and retain files only as reasonably needed for editing, archival, legal, safety, or business purposes.
I use reasonable steps to safeguard stored images and related data.
If a legitimate privacy concern is brought to my attention, I will review the material promptly and consider removal, replacement, cropping, or blurring as appropriate.
Primary subject matter
My drone work is generally intended to capture marine life, ocean scenery, vessels, and related coastal imagery. Passengers, bystanders, homes, and private activities are not intended subjects.
Commitment
I aim to operate in a respectful, non-intrusive manner and to use reasonable practices to reduce privacy risk in connection with any drone imagery I publish.
